I was walking my niece, Grace, to school one morning this week. She looked up at me and said, “When I come to your house, I feel like I have three moms.”
“Oh really?” I replied. “Who is your second mom?”
“Mom,” she said.
“Then who is your first mom?”
“My tummy mom,” she was quick to answer. I had totally forgotten about her birth mom because Grace was adopted when she was six months old and feels so much part of our family that it is hard for me to remember she is adopted even though she is South Korean. I’m glad that Grace still counts her as a mom and recognizes that she can have many moms.
“You can never have too many moms,” I replied. She agreed and we continued to the busstop. I’m glad to be counted as one of them. One of the many blessings of living near family once again.
